25th Independence Day
Communications, Event Identity

It is an honor to receive the commission from the government of our precious diplomatic ally, Palau, to design the trademark and main visual for the 25th anniversary of their independence. We have also researched numerous ethnic symbols and their meanings, aiming to create an identity for this special event that is culturally significant yet modern.

Traditionally, Palauans did not have a writing system, so they used carving to record their stories and legends, known as "storyboards." Therefore, we incorporated the design elements with the texture of wood carvings, conveying the rustic spirit of Palau. Additional symbols include money symbolizing wealth, spiders symbolizing production, and the Palauan tridacna shell symbolizing treasures of the sea.

Three proposal meetings were held in Palau, progressing smoothly from the level of the Minister of Culture, to the Vice President and committee, and finally to the President and Cabinet. Throughout each proposal, we could sense appreciation and praise from the clients through their expressions and feedback. The officials were pleasantly surprised by our integration of local symbols and concepts into the design elements. Despite geographical, cultural, and linguistic barriers, the communication process highlighted Palauans' reverence and preservation of their indigenous culture and ocean heritage as precious treasures.
